Jesus is the rock, the solid stone on which we stand.
I love the old hymn:
On Christ the solid rock I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
All other ground is sinking sand.
Christ is the rock.
1 Corinthians 10:4:
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that ROCK WAS CHRIST.
We are unshaken when we are founded on the rock, Christ. All other ground is sinking sand.
Luke 6:47-49:
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and COULD NOT SHAKE IT: for it was FOUNDED UPON A ROCK.
But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an HOUSE UPON THE EARTH [SAND]; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Jesus knew who God made him to be, the Messiah and salvation and hope for all people. This “stone” is the cornerstone of God’s spiritual temple today [Ephesians 2:20-22]. Those who reject Christ will not find God’s true salvation.
Matthew 21:42,44:
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
The religious “builders” of Israel rejected God’s Son when he lived among them. Yet, God made him the true cornerstone for anyone who believes on him.
Acts 4:10,11:
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
This is the STONE WHICH WAS SET AT NOUGHT [REJECTED] of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
When we believe on Jesus, we are not disappointed in our expectations.
Romans 9:33:
As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH ON HIM SHALL NOT BE ASHAMED [DISAPPOINTED].
We too, are now “living stones,” as a spiritual home for those lost and seek deliverance. We offer up “spiritual sacrifices” greater than those the Old Testament priests could present to God. We have direct access to the Father through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:4-6,8-10:
To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
Ye also, as LIVELY STONES, are built up a SPIRITUAL HOUSE, an holy priesthood, to OFFER UP SPIRITUAL SACRIFICES, acceptable to God BY JESUS CHRIST.
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
But ye are a chosen generation, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but NOW HAVE OBTAINED MERCY.
Through God’s infinite mercy, we have become a unique people, born-again with the Father’s full spirit dwelling in us through Christ. What a day to “shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”
