God’s Design: Men and Women

Men need women and women need men. That’s how God designed it from the beginning.

Genesis 2:18:
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an HELP MEET for him.

The Hebrew word for “help” is ay’-zer and comes from aw-zar’, which means “to surround, protect, aid, help, succor.” God is our primary aid, and here the Creator supplied man with the perfect help for him to live a full and rich life with his wife.

Here are some other places this word “help” is used:

Psalms 33:20:
Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our HELP and our shield.

The only true source of help to wait on is the Lord, Who is all powerful, all knowing, all wise, all loving, and all good.

Psalms 115:11:
Ye that fear [RESPECT] the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their HELP and their shield.

When we respect and trust in God, He is always there to help and shield us from the adversary’s evil devices.

Psalms 121:1,2:
I will [SHOULD I] lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my HELP.
My HELP cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

At the time this psalm was written, Israel was worshiping evil spirits at “religious” sites in the hills [where they thought they’d be “closer” to God]. But our true help comes from the Creator, Who is now our loving Father. Who sent His Son Jesus to save us from this evil world.

Psalms 124:8:
Our HELP is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

If God made the heavens and earth, what can’t He do for us? Romans 8:32 says: “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”

Hosea 13:9:
O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine HELP.

People try to “play God” and are only destroyed by the Devil’s deceit. But we have our help in God. And it is that same Creator Who designed men to have a woman help them in life. The Hebrew word translated “meet” in Genesis 2:18 is neh’-ghed. It is most often translated “before” and means “to be in front of or in the presence of.” It also means to be constantly in view. Husbands are to love their wives and keep them always in view.

Peter understood how husbands and wives complement each other.

1 Peter 3:1,8:
Likewise, ye WIVES, be IN SUBJECTION to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives.
Likewise, ye HUSBANDS, dwell with them ACCORDING TO KNOWLEDGE, GIVING HONOUR unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Husbands must get to know their wives so that they can honor them in daily life. Wives are under their husbands’ support and direction.

1 Timothy 2:11:
Let the woman [WIFE] LEARN in silence [NOT “SHUTTING UP,” BUT HAVING AN INNER PEACE] with all subjection.

The Greek word for “learn” here is the same as “disciple.” Wives are to study their husbands, just as husbands are to study their wives and gain “knowledge” of them. It takes work to build a loving and lasting relationship for a man and woman who are “in the Lord,” and serving Jesus Christ.

God designed men and women to NEED each other, especially born-again believers who are married.

1 Corinthians 11:11,12:
Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, IN THE LORD [CHRIST].
For as the WOMAN IS OF THE MAN, even so is THE MAN ALSO BY THE WOMAN; but all things of God.

All things are of God, Who designed it that way! God made the first woman from “behind the rib” of Adam. Some think that may refer to the stem cells found in bones that are the source of all other parts of the human body. But all men are BY a woman, their mother. We all need each other in the Lord.

Jesus knew what he was talking about.

Mark 10:6-9:
But from the beginning of the creation GOD MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE.
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and CLEAVE [BE FULLY JOINED] to his wife;
And they twain [TWO] shall be ONE FLESH: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
What therefore GOD HATH JOINED TOGETHER, let not man put asunder.

I am so thankful for my wonderful wife. And I pray that other men and women may find a rich relationship with God and their spouse. That is truly the “three-fold cord” spoken of in Ecclesiastes 4:12.

And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a THREEFOLD CORD is not quickly broken.

Amen. I love you.
