Jesus and disciples hungry,On the sabbath picking grain,
Pharisees cried out in anger,
“That’s unlawful, clear and plain!’
Jesus told of priestly service,
In the Temple, without blame.
And one greater than the Temple,
Stood before them without shame.
Jesus taught about old Jonah,
Rescued from the jaws of death.
Nineveh repented when they
Heard him speak with bated breath.
They would judge this generation
That rejected God’s own Son,
For here was a greater prophet,
The Messiah, chosen one.
Jesus said the Queen of Sheba
Came to hear God’s king so wise.
Solomon was worth her journey
His great wealth before her eyes.
She would judge this generation,
Blind and deaf and lost and dumb.
For the King who spoke unto them,
Greater far than Solomon.
The Temple was destroyed by Romans,
Jesus’ body God did save.
Just as Jonah rose to new life,
Christ is risen from the grave.
Wise and great as Solomon was,
Jesus is a greater King.
Priest and prophet, regal Lord,
Greater far in everything.
