Heart Truths from Psalm 18

Psalm 18 in the “Holy Bible From The Ancient Eastern Texts: Aramaic of The Peshitta” by George M. Lamsa has some great truth. It reminds me of our Father’s loving strength and support. And it is all through the Messiah, His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Verses 1-3:
I WILL love thee, O LORD, my strength and my trust;
My refuge and my deliverer is the mighty God in whom I trust; he is my helper and the horn of my salvation and my glorious refuge.
I will call upon the LORD; so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

When we call upon the Lord we are saved. Today, he saves us by believing on our risen Lord, Jesus Christ. We DO have enemies. Satan and his evil spirits attack without ceasing. Yet, we have the victory because we are children of God. Greater is He that is in us that he that is in the world.

Verses 27,28:
For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt humble the proud.
For thou wilt light my lamp; the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

When we are humble God delivers us from our afflictions. Sadly, the proud and self-sufficient never see God’s true grace in their lives. When we accept the Father’s salvation through Christ, we will have our “lamp” enlightened by God’s spirit within us. We will overcome the darkness and the evil one.

Verses 43-49:
Thou wilt deliver me from the judgments of the people; and thou wilt make me the leader of the Gentiles [all nations]; a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me; strangers shall submit themselves to me.
Strangers shall halt and shall be hindered from walking in their paths [we have all gone astray, and God laid on Jesus the iniquity of us all; now we walk in HIS paths].
The LORD lives [today, Jesus is Lord because God raised him from the dead]; blessed be the one who gives me strength; let my God and my Saviour be exalted.
It is God that avenges me and subdues the people under me.
He delivered me from my enemies; yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me; thou hast delivered me from lawless man.
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the Gentiles [nations], and sing praises unto thy name.

This very day, we will give thanks to our Creator who made His Son the Lord of all creation. We will sing praises to our Father and give honor, glory, and blessing to our Lord Jesus. He is the chosen one to whom God gave the greatest responsibility of all time. And he bore our sins on the cross to give us life!

Verse 50:
Great deliverance gives he to his king [the Messiah, the Christ]; and shows mercy to his anointed [chosen one], to David and to his descendants [Jesus is the Son of David] for evermore.

Let us claim the Father’s great deliverance through His Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ. And let’s offer that salvation and wholeness to others we meet. God’s promise in Christ is “for evermore.”
