The Butterfly and the Leaves

I saw a butterfly fluttering nearby a couple of days ago. It was light orange-yellow and moved along of its own power. Normally it would have been easy to notice. But it is Fall, and thousands of small light orange-yellow leaves were falling all around me. They were being carried by the wind, wherever the breeze would take them.

This reminded me of our lives as born-again believers. We have our own power, given to us by the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord. We are filled with holy spirit and can take our direction from God. We don’t have to be blown about with the “winds” of this world. Sadly, many who look like a butterfly are really only lifeless leaves without Christ. We can offer them life-giving truth.

Ephesians 4:13-16:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and CARRIED ABOUT WITH EVERY WIND OF DOCTRINE, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
From whom THE WHOLE BODY fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

The choice is simple. Either get blown by “every wind of doctrine,” or grow up into Christ as part of his wonderful body, the church. If you are a “leaf,” then the first step to this new life of inner power is to be born again of God’s spirit. It too is a simple choice.

Romans 10:9-11:
That IF THOU shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, THOU SHALT BE SAVED.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed [disappointed in his expectations].

That’s the choice [indicated by the word “if”]. Confess Jesus as your Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead. Then you are saved. When you believe on him, you WILL NOT BE disappointed in your expectations. You will have an inner strength to guide you through the storms and winds of life.

Let’s continue to flutter about with the inner strength we have to go where the Father wants us to go. And let’s help those who are blown about in this life. We can offer them eternal life in Christ and a power to prevail in victory in this life!
