About My Healing

I was recently delivered from the hand of my enemy, the Devil, and I would like to tell you about it.

Psalms 107:2
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.

Like many others, I came down with a bad cold that included a fever, nausea, and congestion. This really knocked me for a loop. I was very tired and could not eat for about three days. During that time, my heavenly Father fulfilled His promise of healing through Jesus Christ, my Lord. God sent His Son, the living Word, and healed me. Now I can praise the Lord for his wonderful goodness and gracious wholeness.

Psalms 107:20,21:
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

I would like to tell you some of the practical ways that God healed me through my Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Spiritual healing and strengthening. Throughout the time I was ill, I spoke in tongues much and thanked the Father for healing. This is called “praying in the spirit” in the Bible. I have fellowship with God spiritually through Christ.
  • The Scriptures. They make known the risen Christ and who I am as a new creation in him. During this month, I have read 5 psalms and 1 proverb each morning. Yesterday, was the 24th, so I read Psalms 116 to 120. Psalms 119:54 and 55 helped me greatly during a night of prayer and wakefulness: “Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. I have remembered thy name, O Lord, in the night, and have kept thy law.” I thought of how much Jesus would have learned from this Psalm about trusting the Father. This morning, Psalm 121 reminded me that my help comes from the Lord Who made heaven and earth. He will not sleep, but will preserve and keep me forever.
  • Believers with “Christ in” them. Sherry was the greatest at this. She faithfully rubbed my sore and tired body, gave me healthy teas, and helped me get rest. She strengthened my heart by speaking encouraging words. She was a faithful friend. Other friends also helped: a believer we’ve known for 40 years who has been restored to a loving relationship with his parents and has found a wonderful Christian woman to love him; a friend I’ve known for nearly 50 years who encouraged us to slow down and appreciate God’s goodness; a Christian minister who has helped us since we were new believers—her love and kindness and honest praise for God’s work in Christ melts our hearts; our son and his wonderful wife who pray for us and want the best for us; friends who sent holiday greetings and reminded us of their love and daily prayers for us.
  • Family. My Mom is a such a kind soul and encouraged me to trust God for good health. She is a fine example since she is 95 and living alone at home. She is one of my best friends, along with Sherry and our kids. I am so thankful for her. My brothers and sisters also are a blessing, and many of their children are loving parents as well. It was good to hear about a niece who has greatly helped her dad and brother during a rough time. Also, a younger brother shared good news about his oldest son getting better.
  • Faithful friends. Sherry and I send a daily scripture to many friends. They often respond with heartfelt love and thankfulness. Their words helped me remember God’s care for me as I struggled with physical health. I have a group of Christian friends who have a Saturday morning zoom meeting. Their love and prayers also helped to strengthen me. Other believers from local churches, the school where we teach, and our neighborhood all sent me uplifting messages of God’s mercy and grace. I’m thankful for all of them.
  • God’s creation. I was able to sit up in bed and see blue skies outside my window. This may seem a small thing to some, but living in Northwest Idaho, blue skies can be rare this time of year. I was able to take very short walks out in the fresh, clear air and see the beautiful mountains that surround our home.
  • Videos. I love a good story, and Jimmy Stewart was a help on my road to recovery. We had recently seen “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and just watched “The Shop Around the Corner” and “Mr. Krueger’s Christmas.” The veteran actor honestly loved Jesus Christ and inspired me when he, as Mr. Krueger, tells Jesus how much he loves him and appreciates his love. I also saw a Christmas message from a former U.S. president. He boldly declared that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, and then prayed that 2024 would be our nation’s best year ever. That helped me feel better about our country and its future.
  • A blessed past. My life hasn’t been perfect, but during this illness I reflected back on those people who loved me and helped me learn more about God and His Son. Dozens came to mind, and many still pray for me. When I look back on the many times God has saved my life [Sherry and I talked about some of our adventures around the world], I am established and convinced that He will heal me today.

Thank you for reading this. I pray it inspires you to see God’s healing through Christ in your life.
