Epistles Suite [Paul’s Church Epistles in Poetic Summary]

Romans

Paul wrote to Rome to establish
Believers to walk in the way.
Walking by faith as their habit,
To strengthen each other and pray.

God is revealed in creation,
For every meek person to see.
But some turn to dark fabrication,
Perversions and lies endlessly.

Whether Gentile or stiff-necked Judean,
All have come short of God’s glory.
It’s only through Christ’s work we’re seein’
Happy endings to all our life’s story.

Abraham set the example,
Believing to righteousness clear.
Our “father,” his life was a sample
Of faith overcoming all fear.

Now we’re justified by believing,
We have peace and our hearts full of love.
This newness of life we’re receiving,
By God’s grace through Christ from above.

We don’t serve our past sinful longings,
But walk by the spirit of Christ.
All creation to our side is thronging,
To see God’s sons walking in light!

More than conquerors we are proclaiming,
That God’s love in Christ never parts.
Jesus as Lord we are naming,
Believing he rose in our hearts.

Now we offer a sacrifice—living,
Doing God’s will, minds renewed.
One body, as members, we’re giving,
Overcoming all evil with good.

We follow those God set to teach us,
And give grace to those, immature.
Preaching the good news that reaches
The whole world with grace to endure.

Corinthians

There’s a city both ancient and wild,
On the isthmus, this Corinth of old.
And Paul came to stay there a while,
With a heart that was tender and bold.

He wrote them two letters we still read,
The first full of reproof and hope.
The second with comfort that they’d need
And wisdom in danger to cope.

Division and politics raging,
Paul asked them to live with one mind.
Eternal rewards he was staging,
For those who were faithful and kind.

Confronting pride and fornication,
And those taking others to law,
Helping their marriage relations,
And stopping offenses he saw.

Idols, one body, communion—
Paul taught them to mend all their rifts.
Each member in spiritual union,
Built up, manifesting their gifts.

Speaking in tongues, moving mountains,
Is nothing unless love’s the source.
A patient and kind flowing fountain,
That never will fall from its course.

Christ is now risen—and we too,
Will rise overcoming the grave.
Steadfast in each thing that we do,
Knowing our Lord truly saves.

Paul’s second epistle was written,
To show we have triumph in Christ.
The Lord’s spirit—it’s freedom we’re given,
To shine in the darkness with light.

Earthen vessels we hold God’s true treasure,
Ambassadors, all things made new.
God’s temple, we’re filled to full measure,
Rejoicing in things that are true.

Paul asked them to share ever cheerful,
For God’s grace abounds when we give.
We cast down thoughts making us fearful,
Overcoming each “thorn” as we live.

These letters bring edification,
They teach us to walk forth in love.
Let’s learn from those of this past nation,
For God’s grace is more than enough.

Galatians

Not worldly, but by revelation,
God gave Paul the gospel of Christ,
That he taught to the folks of Galatia.
Not works, but faith centered Paul’s life.

The covenant Abraham received,
Brought righteousness without the Law.
Like the free child Sarah had conceived,
We stand in Christ’s liberty tall!

He told them to walk by the spirit,
And bring forth fruit: love, joy, and peace.
And if any brother will hear it,
Meekly restore quiet seas.

We bear burdens—both ours and others,
We sow and will reap life divine.
Being ‘specially good to our brothers,
Walking in peace with one mind.

Ephesians

Blessed with all blessings and brightened,
Chosen and filled with God’s grace.
Our understanding enlightened—
God’s power above time and space.

Dead in our sins we were living,
Then God raised us up with His Son,
Made us alive, seated with him,
No longer twain, now we are one.

The Mystery hidden, is now shown.
Joint heirs, of one body, we share.
The Gospel’s rich promise to us known.
Exceeding abundance, our prayer.

Balanced, our walk is true service,
One body, one spirit, one hope.
One Lord, faith, and Father Who love us.
The “new man” we keep in our scope.

Walking in love, light, and wisdom,
Filled with His spirit so free.
Submitting each wife and each husband,
Living this great mystery.

Putting on all of God’s armor,
Wrestling dark, evil lords.
Standing in vict’ry each hour,
Wielding our spiritual sword.

Philippians

Praying with joy, seeing good fruit,
Advancing the gospel of light,
Paul wrote an epistle with grand truth,
“Dying is gain; living Christ!”

Jesus lived, died, and is risen,
Every knee should bow to him.
Like Timothy, Epaphroditus,
Let’s shine forth as lights where we live.

All things of worldly attention,
Are nothing compared to Christ’s gain.
We press forth, the mark in our vision,
New bodies, we’ll that day attain.

Never anxious, we pray to the finish,
God supplies all our need, richly sent.
We do all things, Christ working in us,
Thanking the Lord for His gift.

Colossians

Fruitful, increasing, and strengthened,
Giving thanks—our inheritance: light.
Christ as our head, life is lengthened,
God’s fullness now dwelling in Christ.

Rooted, and built up, established,
Avoiding all empty deceit,
We hold to our Head and are nourished,
In Christ we are truly complete.

Our hearts set above, where our life is,
We put on kind mercy and love.
Husbands, wives, children, and servants,
Hearts set on their Lord above.

Continue in prayer with thanksgiving,
Let your words be seasoned with grace,
Take head to the life you are living,
Till we see our Lord face to face.

Thessalonians

Timothy, Paul, and Silas,
Spoke the gospel story.
And these Thessalonicans,
Believed to lasting glory!

Paul in his first letter,
Remembered their sweet smiles,
Faith and love, none better,
Enduring through life’s trials.

Like a nursing mother,
As a father surely knows,
More than just a brother,
They gave them all their souls.

Pleasing God our mission,
With our hands what each earns,
God is our provision,
When our Lord returns.

Those in Jesus sleeping,
And we alive this day,
In our hearts are keeping
Hope that there will stay.

Pray, rejoice unceasing,
Thankful, spirit bright.
We prove all that is pleasing,
Doing what is right.

He wrote a letter later,
About God’s just affairs,
At Christ’s return we’re greater,
And free from judgment’s care.

The wicked man of Satan,
Deceiving some who doubt,
Will be destroyed—no waitin’—
God then will work it out.

So praying for each other,
Established in God’s love,
Reprove each lazy brother,
So each will have enough.
