I read this in the Bible this morning. It seems to me an apt commentary on our times.
Proverbs 29:16:
When bad men are in power, then crime increases; but good men shall yet gloat [rejoice] over their downfall.
This has been the case in America in recent years. Those leaders who turn from God and His truth cause crime to rise. When these unscrupulous fall, good men rejoice that once again they have freedom.

Happy Birthday, USA – A Unique and Exceptional Country

I spent a year after graduating from high school as a foreign exchange student living with a host family in the country of Bolivia in South America. One evening my Bolivian sister was doing homework with one of her friends when they asked me what was the date of the end of our War of Independence. I thought for a minute, and I replied that I could not remember the date of the end of the war.
July 2020 has been an interesting time in the United States and around the world. Untold violence, social unrest, racial division, false media narratives, fear of disease, and draconian state and federal restrictions seemed to have swooped down upon our country overnight.
Good government of the people requires that the government take responsibility to protect every individual citizen’s God-given rights. In government by the people, we noted the people’s responsibility to be mature, self-governing citizens that properly steward their private property. Now let’s look at government for the people, which is how the government and the people work together so that the power of government remains with the people.
First, in “Government of the People,” we will examine the responsibilities of the government and its chosen representatives and leaders. Second, in “Government by the People,” we’ll take a look at the people’s responsibilities.
As Americans celebrate the 242nd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, it is a good time to reflect on the subject of government. Is there any Biblical basis for a particular form of government?
Memorial Day recognizes those who gave their lives in service to America. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Here is poem to commemorate it.
