I saw a wonderful truth this morning.
Jeremiah 33:3:
Call unto me, and I WILL ANSWER thee, and SHEW THEE great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
Here is the context of this promise in verses 1 and 2. Things didn’t look so good for Jeremiah.
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet SHUT UP IN the court of the PRISON, saying,
Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD IS HIS NAME.
God promised to answer Jeremiah even when he was in prison. I’ve worked in a prison and it is a scary place in many ways. I also lived in a “prison” for two years when Sherry and I were separated. I remember sitting in a basement apartment alone, and crying out to God for help. He heard me and our marriage and family were healed. How did it happen? I finally believed WHO I WAS IN CHRIST, and NOT what people [especially religious leaders and “friends”] said I was.
That was also the promise that delivered Jeremiah. The hope of the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, made everything right for him. Look at what God “showed” this humble prophet.
Jeremiah 33:14-16:
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
In those days, and at that time, will I cause the BRANCH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS [JESUS CHRIST] to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
IN THOSE DAYS shall Judah be SAVED, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.
In Jesus’ days upon earth, he was tempted in all ways like we are, and yet never sinned [Hebrews 4:15]. He ALWAYS did the will of the Father [John 4:34; 5:20]. He lived righteously and bought our righteousness, our right standing before God! We are MADE RIGHTEOUS when we accept Jesus as our risen Lord and Savior.
1 Corinthians 1:30,31:
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God IS MADE UNTO US wisdom, and RIGHTEOUSNESS, and sanctification, and redemption:
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
We don’t glory in ourselves, but in what the Lord God, our Father, has made us to be in our risen Lord, Jesus Christ! I am so thankful to be out of my spiritual “prisons” and free in my Lord Jesus! You and anyone can be free as well!
John 8:36:
If the SON therefore shall MAKE YOU FREE, ye shall be FREE INDEED.
Amen. I love you.
