Jesus taught his disciples to pray during his sermon on the mount [Matthew 6:9-13]. Here is that same prayer, including some truths from the rest of the New Testament’s epistles.
Our loving heavenly Father, you are in heaven and dwell in our hearts by faith in Christ. Your Name [all that You are, and do, and give] is holy and sanctified and only brings good. May Your rulership that You have given to Christ [and to us seated with him at Your right hand spiritually] come to pass on earth today in our lives. You have full authority in heaven and gave it to Your Son Jesus as Lord of all. May we do Your will on earth as You work in us to will and to do of Your good pleasure through the spirit of Christ in us.
Thank You for providing all the food, and housing, and clothing that we need to live abundantly, for You are the Living God Who provides all good things richly for us to enjoy. Thank You for forgiving us where we miss the mark and don’t love You enough to do what is right. We are thankful for the total washing away of our sin when we were born again, and we appreciate Your love to forgive us any wrongs we do today because of the faithful work and blood-bought grace we have in Christ. We will forgive anyone who offends us more than “seventy times seven” because YOU have graced us in Christ. We CAN be tenderhearted and forgiving to others even as You, for the sake of Christ, grace us with Your mercy and peace each day.
Father, please don’t allow us to be led by the adversary down his paths on the “courses” of this world. We know there are many things to tempt us and “steal” the life we have, so that we don’t bear fruit from the “seed” in us. Thank You for helping us to focus on who we are IN CHRIST, and not be tempted to do things our way, but in all our ways to acknowledge YOU, and You alone through Christ in us.
And thank You for delivering us from the evil one. He only wants to steal our thoughts, kill our bodies, and destroy our good spiritual impact. But we have a GOOD shepherd in our Lord and brother Jesus Christ. He is our friend and promises a more than abundant life in him. He is the vine and we are the branches. He gives us boldness and confidence to come to You with ANYTHING on our hearts. We know we have the ultimate victory when Christ returns for his church. May we today be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in our Lord Jesus Christ’s work. We absolutely know that our labor IS NOT IN VAIN in Christ.
Father, Yours is the kingdom, power, and glory. Forever and ever unto the ages of all ages.
Amen. I love you.
