The American evangelist Billy Sunday once said, “Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you an automobile.” The only church that Jesus founded is a spiritual one. Men and women may do their best to form fellowship units within the body of Christ, but our true spiritual unity comes from ABOVE, not by pulling ourselves up by our own denominational bootstraps.
Ephesians 4:4-6:
There is ONE BODY, and ONE SPIRIT, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
We are all NOW part of the same spiritual body and all have the hope of Christ’s FUTURE return and having a new spiritual body like his. Jesus Christ is the center of our lives: he is our ONE LORD, we have ONE FAITH in him, and ONE BAPTISM spiritually in his death. Then the ONE and ONLY God becomes our Father through Christ.
But how do we keep this oneness that we have spiritually? The question is answered even before these verses tell us what we have!
Ephesians 4:1-3:
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Endeavouring to keep the UNITY OF THE SPIRIT in the bond of peace.
Here’s how to keep our spiritual unity:
1. Be lowly: remember that without God and His Son you can do nothing.
2. Be meek: stay coachable to the Father and listen to other believers in the body of Christ.
3. Be patient, longsuffering: we all make mistakes and need to be loved and encouraged. Please don’t give up on each other.
4. Support each other in God’s love to us in Christ. That love NEVER fails to reach the Father’s good will for our lives.
Let’s stay open to the Father prompting us in our spirit to do His will. Let’s remember how much we need our Savior Jesus Christ to get through each day. And let’s patiently support each other with that overflowing love from a heart of joyful thanks for all God has done for us! Amen.

Amen! We are ONE Body of Christ. I refer to local church membership as a manmade tradition called ‘ritual of initiation’.
